"The Shoulder Bag"

Here's the latest.....
I'm sorry I know it's hard to tell what it looks like.....just hanging over a chair (click on the image to view it larger).  It's a Sling bag and I'm calling it "The Shoulder Bag".  It's actually going to be my ipad bag. My ipad fits perfectly in there and I used white flannel inside to protect it (I have a cover but sometimes I take it off).

Good news.........I ordered a Dress Form on Amazon today :) it should arrive on Saturday......that means the next time you see this bag....it will be hanging on a mannequin (or in a video).

I'm super excited!! I had to make sure I ordered one that had some arms so my handbags could hang on her shoulder.  I think I may name her :)  That just came to me....that means I need another name.  Dang! naming stuff never ends :)

More news....I think I've got a name for all my bags....
Chick n Stitch Designs  .....  Handbags, Totes & Fabric Creations.
So, what do you think?  (I'm still working on the tag line...all you ladies that have a strength with wording things....  feel free to lend a helping hand.)

Here's an example:
Chick n Stitch "The Shoulder Bag"
Chick n Stitch "Savanna Bag"
Chick n Stitch "It's a Keeper Book Bag"

So, what do you think?

See ya!!

p.s. I still have more sewing projects to show you...I was on a roll :)

Keeper or Throw it back?

I had this idea....I need a bag that I could throw my ipad in and my wallet and go.  That meant it needed to be tall and thin (kinda how I wish my body was!!).

So....yesterday I signed up for a Siggy Swap and as I was reading the instructions it gave me an idea using a Jelly Roll Honey Bun for my bag.   Honey Buns are strips of fabric already cut 2 1/2 x 40 something.
By using a Honey Bun that eliminated me having to cut the fabric.   Since it was storming last night I decided to get started with my idea.   Except after I was done.....I'm not sure I like it.  I love the fabric choice.   The Hushabye line is just beautiful and I couldn't resist using it on a bag for me!!

I'm going to show you the pictures and you tell me what you think.

So, is it a keeper or do I throw it back?   I think the bag is too long...the ruffle is too short.  I have a new idea....use the jelly roll for 1/2 of the bag and use squares for the other half.  Not sure how it will work out but it's worth a try.  Or my other option is I could make some flowers using some of the Big Shot Dies and attach them to the purse.  That might break up the long strips.
What do you think?

I made the ruffle small this time because I wanted to see if I could use the Honey Bun strip for it.  I'll ditch that idea for this bag. I say you don't know til you try it :)

Fabric Gift Bags

These darling gift bags are just so easy to make!!
The first picture has the flowers that I made using the Big Shot Die Cut Machine with the Flower Layers #3 Die along with the 1-1/4 Old Olive Striped Ribbon.  I used the Playground Buttons on page 181 of our Stampin' Up! catalog for the center of the flower.

The next one I made using the Sweet Pea Stitched Felt (perfect for those of you that would rather not make the flowers with the Big Shot).

If you have some Layer Cakes just waiting for you to make something, this is the perfect project!!

I'll explain how to make the Gift Bag and in a few days I'll have a picture tutorial available to purchase.
If  you're using a Layer Cake, all you need to do is cut off 1-1/2" on one side.  Your fabric will measure 8-1/2 by 10.
On the long side, fold 1/4" down & iron it.  Then you'll sew it, that provides your hem for the top of the bag.  Make sure you keep it clean since it's the top of  your gift bag.
Next....Fold your right sides together and sew it on the side and at the bottom.   Turn bag right side out and you're done making the gift bag :)

To close the Gift Bag, tie your 1-1/4 Striped Old Olive Grosgrain Ribbon around it.  Whatever flower you decide to use, you can attach them using Fabric Glue.

I can't wait to hear how much you like these Fabric Gift Bags!!

Hushabye Savanna Bag

I'm done :)   What do you think?
I had a hard time figuring out which fabric to use for the liner & the handles.

So, I went with my favorite.....the green.

One of the things I noticed is that your Fusible Fleece &liner may need to be a different size if you use a different seam allowance.
With my instructions I said that the Fusible Fleece was 15 x 11 1/2 but when I made this bag it needed to be 15 x 12.

Once you've seen all your squares together....measure those pieces and that will determine what size your Fusible Fleece needs to be.

If you make a Savanna Bag....please share a picture with me...I'd love to see it!
And if you're a beginner ...I promise this bag is really not hard ...it may look it but it's not!!

Here's another Rag Quilt Purse I made for a Christmas present.

After getting the bag completely done...I decided I'm going back to using only three patterns of fabric instead of six.

Birdie Purse

What can I say?

I'm hooked on making purses!!

I made this purse using eight 5" squares.

I'm in the process of tweaking it so I can use the scallop square die to cut the fabric.

I'm pretty sure the handles should be placed under the ruffle :O

I've never sewn before September ....... I'm thrilled with my results!!

Here's a few more pictures .....

Western Rag Quilt Purse

I have one more purse to show you....

Deanna's flying home in a few hours and I wanted to show you the purse before she leaves. I took her to the fabric store on Friday and in less than 24 hours I made her this purse (while we talked I was sewing).

Deannas purse

It's missing the button to close it.....she'll need to find a cute western button in Tennessee.....not that we don't have them in Kansas City but we didn't want to spend all our time together shopping.

Rag Quilt Purse

I'm super excited to show my purse...but I'll explain it a little first.

The first picture is off the Figgy Pudding Rag Quilt Purse made with the Scallop Square Die (it's not finished).  It's much easier to make them with the die because you can cut 8 squares at one time.  You need 38 squares and if you cut one at a time, that's 38 times :)

Here's the picture ........

Scallop Square Figgy
I need to add the handles and the closing strap & then wash it.  The next picture is of the first one I made......cute isn't it? I could do a little better in some areas but it's my first and I love it!!

Figgy Pudding Purse
Some people choose to make their purses with six different fabrics...but I put my own twist on it & made it with only three. The next one I'll show you will have six......my baby sister is here this weekend and I took her to the fabric store to pick out her own fabric.

See ya!
